Two more victories last week helps move the local Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League squad up the rankings
The Greater Sudbury Cubs of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League are now the sixth-ranked junior hockey club in the country.
The squad recorded two more victories last week, including a 5-3 win over the Soo Eagles on Jan. 26 and a 3-2 overtime win over the Soo Thunderbirds on Jan. 28. The Cubs’ 72 points on the season gives them a 12-point lead over the Soo Thunderbirds and Blind River Beavers for first place in the NOJHL West Division. The Cubs remain in first place overall in the NOJHL with a three-point lead over the Timmins Rock.
“The victories and the team’s sparking 35-6-2 win-loss record has moved the local junior team into 6th place overall in the country!” the Cubs said in a news release. The Cubs host the fourth-place Espanola Paper Kings on Thursday night at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
Prior to the start of the game, the Cubs will pay tribute to the Greater Sudbury Police Services 50th anniversary. The Cubs will travel to French River on Saturday night to play the Rapids.
