The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) kicks off its artist announcements with a powerful lineup featuring Black Coffee, Nduduzo Makhathini, Kyle Shepherd Trio, and Thandiswa Mazwai.

The Cape Town International Jazz Festival ( CTIJF ) has officially launched its highly anticipated weekly artist announcements, building excitement for the full lineup reveal in April. The first wave of artists unveiled showcases a powerhouse selection of musical talents, each bringing a unique and dynamic sound to the festival stage. Get ready to witness the groundbreaking collaboration between renowned producer Black Coffee and pianist Nduduzo Makhathini .

Both artists share a deep-rooted jazz background, having studied together at Technikon Natal in Durban. Their upcoming performance at CTIJF on Friday, April 25th, will mark their first full-length concert as a duo, blending their respective sonic worlds into a masterful fusion of jazz, electronic music, and African rhythms. Accompanied by a full orchestra, a bass section, percussionists, and special guest vocalists, this performance promises to be a highlight of the festival - an immersive experience celebrating the depth of South African musical excellence.Further enriching the festival's lineup is the celebrated Kyle Shepherd Trio, led by one of South Africa's most acclaimed jazz pianists and composers. Shepherd, a Cape Town native, has captivated audiences worldwide with performances at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Théâtre de Châtelet in Paris. His accolades include being named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz (2014) and winning the UNISA Piano Competition (2019). On Saturday, April 26th, the Kyle Shepherd Trio will take to the Rosies Stage, featuring Shepherd on piano, Shane Cooper on double bass, and Jonno Sweetman on drums. This ensemble seamlessly blends South African jazz traditions with global influences, delivering intricate improvisations and deeply emotional narratives. Adding to the star-studded lineup is the legendary Thandiswa Mazwai, a commanding presence in South African music for over 27 years. Rising to fame in the 1990s as part of Bongo Maffin, Thandiswa’s solo career has catapulted her into the stratosphere of African musical icons. With performances at legendary venues like the Apollo Theatre and Radio City Music Hall, and collaborations with greats like Hugh Masekela and Black Coffee, Thandiswe continues to redefine contemporary African music. This is just the beginning! The CTIJF will be revealing more artists each week leading up to the full lineup announcement in March.
