CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz has been asked to appear before a hearing convened by US representatives.
The Committee wants to know in detail what happened and how CrowdStrike intends to avoid this in future.
The outage this caused is potentially the largest in history and not only business owners want answers. The US representatives are aware that this isn’t a cybersecurity incident but do frame the outage and the response to that outage as a demonstration of the nation’s digital defenses. The Committee says that learning from this incident is part of protecting digital infrastructure which is a fair point.
Kurtz was ordered to appear before the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection today. Whether he will appear isn’t clear but senior director for corporate communications at CrowdStrike, Kevin Benacci told, “CrowdStrike is actively in contact with relevant Congressional Committees. Briefings and other engagement timelines may be disclosed at Members’ discretion.”
