Rail lines reopened by 3:44 p.m. as ground crews aided by aircraft gained control of the blaze.

Ground and air crews managed to extinguish a brush fire in Chatsworth that temporarily shut down rail traffic between there and Simi Valley on Monday, May 23.

The Germain fire was initially a quarter-acre patch of flames near Chatsworth Park, on the 22200 block of West Germain Street, when it was first spotted at 2:20 p.m. Los Angeles Fire Department officials said in a bulletin. It spread to consume about two acres before it was eventually extinguished at about 6 p.m.

Traffic along a nearby set of tracks used by commercial and passenger trains was shut down as firefighters worked in remote, rocky terrain along the Santa Susana Pass. Lines were reopened by 3:44 p.m., as ground crews aided by aircraft gained control of the blaze. No injuries or damage were reported. Firefighters were assigned to patrol the area Monday evening to look out for hotspots or flareups.
