Creative challenge or try-hard move? Singapore school assigns TaylorSwift poster campaign for a chance at a holiday
of a local school writing assignment called for students to create copy for a poster to appeal to Taylor Swift to come to perform in their school.
We can’t blame the school though for their creative attempt. It all started when Education Minister Chan Chun Sing issued a challenge to all the teen Swifties in school after being bombarded with requests to call for a school holiday on the dates the popstar is performing in Singapore. With her performing on March 2, 3, 4 and 7, 8, 9, it means that there will be three weekdays these kids are asking for – as if the minister would give a three-day holiday. But let’s see how this pans out.
Situational writing is an essential component in English exam papers and comprises learning how to effectively write official emails, letters and the sorts. The premise of the assignment is that the Minister of Education “issued a challenge” to all “teenage fans” of the singer asking them to get her to perform at their school for free. If successful, they will be rewarded with a school holiday for all the staff and students.
While yeah, the teacher can get some bonus points for trying to be creative and cool but we have to remember this is someone who put so many hurdles to securing a ticket to her show – do you really think she’ll drop a rando school to perform for free?Comments came in, some on how the teachers are just trying their best to make learning fun.
