The M57 in Merseyside has since been closed in both directions after heavy rain
This is the moment brave drivers attempted to battle a flooded motorway after torrential rain left the road submerged in water.
A yellow weather warning for rain was in place this morning across parts of the North West, touching on the border of Greater Manchester, but largely covering Lancashire and Merseyside.One video, sent to the ECHO, taken from a taxi at 5.50am this morning shows the vehicle ploughing through a huge body of water formed on the M57 at Switch Island.

Other instances of roads being flooded were reported across Merseyside including the East Lancs in the direction of Aintree University Hospital.
