His path to the NFL, however, wasn’t without detours. In 2020, Overshown paused his desires, putting family over the sport he loves.

In 2020, Overshown paused his football career, working at a grocery store to help his family during the COVID pandemic. His final year in 2022 was his best. He played in 12 games and was an all-Big 12 first-team selection. He set career highs in tackles , tackles for loss and sacks . The Cowboys were attracted to his ability to play multiple positions, but for now he’s at weakside linebacker.“Whether you’re at safety or [linebacker] just having that ability to communicate and talk to the guys that’s so important. The best of the best defenses talk,” defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said of Overshown’s skillset.
He missed one game in 2021 with a toe injury and was an all-Big 12 honorable mention. He took advantage of the extra year of athletic eligibility provided by the NCAA in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In that fifth year, the 6-4, 220-pounder not only had his best season, he earned his college degree.
