Stolen cowbell with two names engraved inside a mystery that Abbotsford police need the public’s help to solve.
The bell is shiny, brass, well cared for, possibly an Alpen Schatz or Swiss cowbell, stamped with a raised floral design and attached to a decorative black leather strap sporting an edelweiss patch and the Swiss cross emblem.
More respect not just in music, but in life. Perhaps the kind of respect this cowbell’s owner has shown with the careful engraving of the names.Maybe the bell bears the names of two people who fell in love, and it doesn’t belong to a cow at all. Perhaps the rightful owners met while backpacking through Europe and fell in love one night, while stargazing in an Alpine meadow. Perhaps they heard the music of the bells ringing over the hills of Switzerland, like music proclaiming their love.
Perhaps something had gone wrong, as often happens. Heartbreak, a separation, or a divorce. Perhaps the cowbell was wrenched out of someone’s hand during a bitter argument and left to languish, forgotten in some Abbotsford basement. Perhaps the owner doesn’t even know this lonely bell is missing. But if the cow doesn’t want its bell back, perhaps we go back to the story of our star-crossed but tragic lovers.
