Professor Karim Abdool Karim says the country should look at moving away from wearing masks and sanitising as there's a significant drop in new infections.
Today marks exactly two years to the day the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in South Africa. Since then, the country has reported over 3.6 million cases and almost 100,000 deaths. However, many gains have been made since then thanks to vaccinations. "I don't know what government's plans are with removing masks but what we've seen from other countries is that we have reached a stage where we can change our overall strategy, we can remove most of our restrictions and public health measures at this point," Karim said.
