Court slams legal regulator for years of inaction against fraud-accused attorney
A court has slammed the LPC for being slow to act on numerous complaints directed against a Gauteng lawyer.
A court has slammed the Legal Practice Council for downplaying over 20 complaints against a Gauteng lawyer accused of stealing millions of rands in property transactions and threatening clients. For years, the LPC, which is responsible for regulating the legal profession, did little to nothing while complaints piled up against attorney Ashley Michael Youngman.
"The LPC's response to the complaints was perfunctory, and fell short of what is expected of the LPC as a regulator of the profession," ruled the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
