Bongani Masilela from Boksburg South was sentenced to a R2 000 fine or six months imprisonment, suspended for five years, on June 23 for making a false statement under oath.This comes after Masilela stated on October 13, last year that his white Mercedes C350 was stolen that day while the vehicle was not stolen.• A 56-year-old woman from Daveyton was sentenced to a R1 200 fine or three months imprisonment, suspended for three years, on June 22 for theft.

Joyce Mokone Martha pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft on April 8 and was found guilty on June 7. The charge stems from an incident where she stole two steak and kidney pies to the value of R45.98 from Pick and Pay Hypermarket on February 10.• On June 24, Johan Diederick Jankowitz from Boksburg was sentenced to three months direct imprisonment on a charge of theft.This comes after he stole 1180g chocolates, a camping axe and 24 AAA batteries to the value of R527.87 from Checkers Hyper on May 24.

The Mozambican citizen pleaded guilty and was found guilty for being in contravention of Section 49 of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. On October 16, this year, Macuacua, unlawfully entered and remained in South Africa without being in possession of a valid passport, valid permanent residence, or a valid visa by the director-general of the Department of Home Affairs in terms of the provisions of the act, and not having entered the country at a designated port.
