was certainly one of the bright spots of the match. In the end, though, it was Pinto cleaning up a loose ball in the box in stoppage time — and mostly simply being willing to just try launching the ball on frame. It’s crazy what happens when you’re willing to try a decent shot in the box.
It’s heartbreak for the Current though, considering their placement on the NWSL table and the glimpse of hope that a Challenge Cup trophy might have given them. Mace was the best player on the field for them by far, but the Courage out-shot, out-passed and out-possessed the home team. It’s not shocking they’re moving on, but hopefully, their goal-scoring ways pick back up in the final. —
