A campaign for a statue for the much-loved entertainer has gathered pace
Following the star's sudden death on March 28, calls have been growing for a statue or some form of memorial to be created and displayed in his home town of Birkenhead.
A petition started just a few weeks ago calling for a statue has amassed more than 200,000 signatures, while a GoFundMe page has raised nearly £3,000.The leader of Wirral Council, Janette Williamson, has added her voice to the campaign for a statue for the much-loved entertainer whose funeral was held last week in Kent, where he lived up to his death. Hundreds of people came out in Birkenhead on the day to celebrate his remarkable life.
“We have already received a range of great ideas and offers to work with us from local artists and communities, which will all be considered as part of our Borough of Culture preparations for next year. We will, of course, wish to discuss all plans with Paul’s family, friends and supporters in time."
