staff in Glasgow are to get an extra day’s holiday each year starting this year.It means staff, on appointment, will be eligible for 26 days of holiday and 12.5 public holidays, a total of 38.5 days a year.After five years of service the entitlement increases to 29 days and 12.5 public holidays, a total of 41.2 days a year.

It comes after the Scottish Joint Council for Local Government Employees reached a salaries agreement for the year 2022/23 last year. Staff are entitled to three long bank holiday weekends with a Friday and Monday off. One at Easter, one in May for the Queen’s birthday and one for the September weekend.The other public holidays are January 1 and 2, the first Monday in May, the third Monday in May for Glasgow Fair, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.Council employees will also have the extra national public holiday this year for the King’s Coronation in May.

The increase is being noted by councillors this week and does not need to be approved as it has already been agreed as part of salary negotiations.
