Council looking at fines of $3,000 to deter catalytic converter theft yyc yyccc
Proposed amendments to the city’s business licence bylaw would regulate the purchase and sale of unattached catalytic converters, mandating that auto-wreckers and salvage collectors adhere to new processes meant to make tracking the oft-stolen part easier. They’d have to keep track of the VIN, make and model of the vehicle the catalytic converter originated from, and decline sales where that information is not provided or the part is damaged.
