San Francisco isn't ready to bin its headline-grabbing trash cans, but the new design just might be in the dumps.
The committee, a subset of the Arts Commission that must review all public infrastructure projects in The City, didn't entirely rubbish the proposed design, but there was no measure to vote for its approval, either. San Francisco attracted local and national scrutiny when the Board of Supervisors in 2021 approved a costly pilot program to test out six trash can designs at 52 locations around The City, each of which cost between $12,000 and $20,000 a pop.
