The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has praised the Gauteng Provincial Government for starting payments on the R12.9 billion e-toll debt. While acknowledging this as a positive step, Cosatu expressed concerns about the potential impact on service delivery in the province.
The Congress of South Africa n Trade Unions ( Cosatu ) has lauded the Gauteng Provincial Government, after it announced that it has commenced the payment of its first installment toward the R 12.9 billion This initiative follows a structured agreement between the provincial and national governments aimed at resolving the funding impasse associated with the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project. Cosatu however warned that paying back the e-tolls may have an effect on service delivery in the province.
Trade union federation’s Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Amos Monyela says, “We must appreciate and applaud the government of Gauteng, in taking over this debt towards relieving motorists and the people of Gauteng.
