Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear MBE is suffering from dementia, her husband has revealed in a statement. The 81 year old actress played iconic Rovers Return barmaid Bet Lynch in the much-loved ITV soap from 1966 to her last appearance in 2003.
“We have taken the decision to publicly announce the diagnosis as Julie still loves visiting friends and eating out. Inevitably she is recognised, and fans love to meet her - and she them - but she can get confused particularly if she is tired. I hope people will understand.” In 1996, she was awarded an MBE for her services to acting. She was also honoured with a Special Recognition Award at the 1995 National Soap Awards.
