Ohio, Maryland become first states to shut all K-12 schools

All K-12 schools in Ohio will be shut down for three weeks starting Monday to try to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced Thursday.

The actions are the most sweeping school closure efforts in the U.S. so far and stand to disrupt just about everything related to family and school routines.Seattle Public Schools on Wednesday became the first major metropolitan school district to announce it would cancel all classes to contain the spread of the virus. The district, which serves about 54,000 students, will be closed for at least two weeks starting Thursday.
