Kenneth Cope, who played Jed Stone in Coronation Street, has died with tributes saying he was a 'true icon'
The TV world is mourning the loss of Coronation Street star Kenneth Cope, whose death has been confirmed. The much-loved actor became a household name in 1961 after securing his breakthrough role as Jed Stone on the beloved ITV soap.
After a remarkable 42 years away from the cobbled streets of Weatherfield, Cope reprised his role as Jed in 2008, amidst a plot involving property magnate Tony Gordon. His stay was brief, and aside from a solitary return for a special episode in 2014, centred around Ken Barlow's trial, Cope's time on Coronation Street came to an end.
