At 54, Sherri Harding is living her rock\u002Dstar dreams, with a debut album not only written and produced by one of her childhood idols
We apologize, but this video has failed to load.Born and raised in Ottawa, Harding is the youngest in a family of six children, born to an outdoorsy father who liked country music and a mother with a penchant for opera. They lived at the western edge of the Experimental Farm, where her dad ran a business selling Christmas trees and live bait.“When I was born, there were three teenagers in the house so I got exposed to all the different kinds of music,” she says.
“When you’re a kid you don’t have a perception as far as the world goes but to me they were the same as the Doobie Brothers, Elton John or Elvis,” she says. “There was no distinction. They were rock legends, rock gods. They were a big deal.” But they also felt she never had a proper shot at stardom. During the pandemic, Dick Cooper filled his time writing songs, including a batch written from a female perspective, with Harding in mind. He had also gotten to know the other Dick Cooper, a photographer and tour manager, in Muscle Shoals after being tagged on Facebook by people in the Southern states that he didn’t know.
