Players contracted to England's women's rugby team will be entitled to fully paid maternity leave for 26 weeks as part of a new policy announced by the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Players' Association on Thursday.
"There will be a similar provision made for any player who would prefer for their infant to remain in the home environment," the RFU said in a statement. Players due to go on maternity leave will also have opportunities to move into employment within sport. RPA general secretary Christian Day described the policy as a"significant step forward" for the women's game in England.
