More seating, concessions and gates are on the way to San Antonio International Airport as officials make strides to open a ground loading facility by early 2025.

The facility, which will house five additional gates, was awarded $20 million Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.More seating, concessions and gates are on the way to San Antonio International Airport as officials make strides to open a $50 million ground loading facility by early 2025.

The facility will allow airlines to board passengers from the tarmac out of five gates, bringing the number of gates at Terminal A to 22. The airport overall has 27 gates. More overnight parking would mean more revenue since the airport would charge airlines for spaces. The airport currently has enough space for 12 jets to park overnight — for which airlines pay a fee to the city — but the city aims to add six new spaces.from the Federal Aviation Administration in February to help fund the ground loading facility.
