Ohio State has temporarily halted some work on its upcoming $1.79 billion hospital tower after some issues with concrete were discovered Monday morning.
Ohio State University has temporarily halted construction on part of its new inpatient hospital tower after cracks were discovered in a concrete column.
The cracks were found Monday morning, prompting the university to pause steel work on the $1.79 billion additional tower at its Wexner Medical Center. The cracking appeared to be isolated to one concrete column and there are more than 60 additional concrete or steel columns on each level of the building, according to the medical center.A structural engineer reviewed the cracked column and advised the university that there is not a safety issue that impacts the rest of the building.
Construction on other portions of the new tower will continue while the steel work is paused. The medical center has postponed a previously planned ceremony to mark the installation of the final structural beams on the new inpatient hospital.Looking for a COVID or flu shot before your holiday gathering? Here's how to find one nowWhen its finished, the new tower will be 1.9 million square feet across 26 floors.
