Conservatives bring in outside lawyers to review possibility of Patrick Brown appeal

Brown’s campaign has hired lawyer Marie Henein who sent a letter to the campaign Monday, calling for a swift meeting of the dispute resolution appeal committee

Brown was disqualified last week over allegations he breached election law by having a campaign worker paid by an outside corporation. The complaint the party acted on was initially anonymous, but a longtime party activist, Debra Jodoin, came forward to identify herself as the whistleblower and said she brought the issue directly to Brown.

“We have read Ms. Jodoin’s statement, and it is our view that there has been no breach of the Canada Elections Act,” they wrote.Article content “Independent counsel has therefore been retained to advise on this important question,” he said. “We communicated this information to Mr. Brown’s lawyers on Friday night. Our counsel will continue to liaise with his as required.”
