A member of the Conroe High School Tiger band cheers wearing a orange wig in the first quarter of a District 13-6A high school football game at Buddy Moorhead Stadium, Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, in Conroe.CONROE — With a maddening amount of miscues and a 10-point second-half deficit Friday night, perhaps the Conroe Tigers found some late motivation of sending their homecoming crowd home happy.
“I’m very proud,” Conroe coach Cedric Hardeman said. “I give this win to my coaching staff. They did a great job. There was a lot of things we had to deal with this week. This is a great week with homecoming. The kids came out and battled.” Willis dropped its third straight and were without junior DJ Lagway, one of the top quarterbacks of 2024 in the nation, due to injury.
Willis took a 24-14 lead at the 7:24 mark of the third quarter as quarterback Hutton Hoegemeyer hit Debraun Hampton for a 10-yard score. That score came off a fumbled snap on a punt attempt by Conroe. Both of Willis’ touchdowns in the first half were off blocked punts.
