Customer service has kept people coming back to South End store for five decades
"It's all about customer service," said Brigitte Michel, one of the co-owners of A&J Home Hardware in Sudbury which this week is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in business.
Michel said it is more than being able to buy a hammer, a box of nails and a can of paint. A&J is in many ways like the old-fashioned neighbourhood hardware store where customers can find everything from corn brooms to carpet cleaning machines. "It's all about customer service. It's what has kept us in business for as long as we have been. And that's something that my mom and dad always gave. They always provided that kind of service. And we continue to do that.”
"You know, it was exhausting. But again, I've been told by many customers that we were the best as far as service, because we had five phone lines going. We had online shopping that we took care of. We had an email where people could write to us with what they wanted. People would send us a list of things on Facebook. So we all worked very, very hard at making sure that we had those orders taken care of.
She said the payoff is now evident because with the arrival of spring, the store is experiencing one of its busiest times ever. She said spring is a time when people are motivated to start new projects and fix things up.
