CONFIRMED: Mngqithi Explains Downs Decision To Sign Rayners
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has let the cat out of the bag by confirming that the club has signed Iqraam Rayners and further explained why they have brought the striker in from Stellenbosch FC.
Rayners is expected to be announced by the reigning Premiership champions on a long-term deal from the Cape side. It's understood that the former SuperSport United will form part of Sundowns' squad in the CAF Champions League, which is where Mngqithi sees him making a big impact.Rayners has experience of playing at an international level for Bafana Bafana, so he is not likely to be fazed by the challenge of participating in the Champions League with Sundowns.
Speaking to the media after Sundowns' 1-0 victory over Polokwane City on Sunday afternoon, Mngqithi confirmed that Sundowns have signed Rayners and revealed where he sees the player making the most impact. "As form Iqraam, we are happy to have him because he will add something to the club. I am looking at him more for the Champions League than even in the PSL. In as much as he will help us in the PSL, I think in the Champions League he will really give us something," Mngqithi said. Sundowns will take on Stellenbosch in the semi-finals of the MTN8, but Rayners will not be able to play against the Cape side because he will be cup tied.
