Canberrans will endure another four weeks in lockdown in response to escalating cases in the ACT, Chief Minister Andrew Barr announced on Tuesday.

The lockdown extension will be accompanied by a few concessions relating to small business, the real estate sector and low risk sport.

Mr Barr said his government would hold a mid-point review of the public health directions in two weeks.“What we are certain of though is that a highly vaccinated Canberra is a safer Canberra,” the Chief Minister said. “Based on the current vaccination trajectories, the nation is anticipated to reach 70 per cent and 80 per cent effective vaccination milestones in mid-October and early to mid-November.”

Further announcements are expected from the ACT government in coming days regarding crisis response funding for mental health and community services. “Our goal is to get kids back to face-to-face learning as soon as it is COVIDSafe to do so,” Mr Barr said.
