The leaders of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali took a new step forward in their mutual cooperation outside of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at a 6 July meeting in Niamey, on the eve of the sub-regional organisation’s summit in Abuja.
At the AoSS summit in Niamey on 6 July 2024, the three countries announced they were a confederation.
