Const. Hockley, appearing by video from a treatment centre, described how the “unwarranted” assault affected him and his daughter, who witnessed the incident. Defence lawyer Lucas O’Hara said his client immediately realized he’d made a “significant error of judgment” after striking Hockley, who wasn’t injured.
Thomas, who studied police foundations at Fanshawe College and criminology at Western University, spent two years as a Peel Regional police officer before transferring to London in 2018. He “The choice I made does not represent my morals, values or procedural nature that I’ve operated under throughout my life and career and certainly does not represent the training or expectations the service has for its officers,” Thomas said.Ontario Court Justice Edward Graham accepted the joint submission for a conditional discharge — a finding that will spare Thomas a criminal record — but rejected the Crown’s request for Thomas to submit a DNA sample, citing his low risk to reoffend.
“I’m satisfied he has received and internalized the tools to ensure that such actions do not happen in the future.”
