Residents are 'dreading' the possibility'
People in a Nottinghamshire village are "dreading" the building of more houses after the county council outlined plans to sell 11.5 acres of land to developers. The fields off Beck Lane in Skegby have already caused controversy, with the Government overriding Ashfield District Council in 2019 to allow the building of 322 houses.
"There are plenty of brownfield sites around the area and yet they're building on green belt land again here. It's a disgrace." Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, who represents Skegby on the county council for the Ashfield Independents, has also voiced her concerns. She said: "This whole thing stinks. There is no thought as to how the already struggling infrastructure in Skegby will cope.
Jess Home, 27, another Beck Lane resident, said: "There is an accident out on the main road every six or eight months and we only had one last week. It's a national speed limit down there so that's why you get the accidents and new housing will just add to the problem.
