In a letter written to local councillors, the chief executive of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture said that following the inspection last week, no sports activity is to take place in either the main hall or the second hall of the centre until a further full inspection can be undertaken. Councillor Richard Nelson said: “In these challenging times, it is crucial for communities to have access to recreational facilities and services that promote physical and mental well-being. The closure of the main games hall at Larkhall Leisure Centre leaves a void in the heart of the community that many are eager to see addressed.
“It is not possible to confirm how long the sports hall will be closed at this stage but arrangements are being made to accommodate sports activity at other venues in the meantime. We apologise to those affected by the closure, which is regrettable but unavoidable to ensure the safety of all concerned.”
