The AA has warned drivers that if they make one common mistake on the road, they could be banned from driving, even if they aren't using their phone
The AA has issued a warning to drivers, cautioning that one common mistake could result in a ban from driving. The motoring experts have detailed on their website that if new drivers make a slip-up, they will be required to retake their test.
In such a scenario, you would revert to being a learner driver until you can successfully retake and pass both the theory and practical tests, which you would need to pay for again. The AA highlights that the penalty for using a handheld mobile phone while driving is now six points and a £200 fine. The regulations clarify: "It applies even if you have an automatic stop-start and the engine's cut out briefly". Since 2021, it has been illegal to handle a mobile phone while driving.
