In the meantime, our family physicians, emergency physicians, nurse practitioners and many other health-care providers are trying to fill that void … but that’s a gaping hole to fill. As a result, many doctors and health-care providers are telling us that they’re struggling to keep up and they’re burning out. Burnout leads to illness and sometimes practice closures.
I am fortunate to be one of the first physicians to join this model of care. I am already seeing the benefits to patients and caregivers alike. In a team-based practice, it doesn’t matter who is out of the office for much-needed time away — nurses, physicians, or administrative staff — the whole team pitches in to meet the needs of the patients.
