The Washington Commanders are starting a new era under first-year coach Dan Quinn. Follow along for updates and analysis from the team’s 2024 training camp.
The Commanders received some positive injury news just before the start of their first camp practice Wednesday: Second-round rookie Johnny Newton, who was placed on the non-football injury list last week, was activated after passing his physical Tuesday afternoon. The defensive tackle underwent surgery in May to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot — shortly after recovering from a partial Jones fracture in his right foot. “That’s great news,” Coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday morning.
“He has absolutely busted his to do everything he can to get ready, so great sign for him.” The Commanders will ease Newton into workouts since he missed the entire offseason workout program because of the injuries. Quinn said the rookie will participate only in individual drills, as well as the night walk-throughs, but not team drills.
