COMELEC en banc is scrutinizing the petition of National Youth Commission Chairperson Ronald Cardema to replace his wife as the first nominee of Duterte Youth party-list.
The Commission on Elections en banc is scrutinizing the petition of National Youth Commission Chairperson Ronald Cardema to replace his wife as the first nominee of Duterte Youth party-list.
"He had a petition to be considered a legitimate nominee, that hasn't been resolved yet. There is a pending petition and that petition can be filed by anyone. COMELEC is studying the matter. There are legal issues involved, there are substantive issues involved, so COMELEC is taking the necessary time to decide this properly," spokesperson James Jimenez told CNN Philippines on Monday.Another issue Cardema is facing with his petition is his age.
Cardema is seeking to replace his wife Ducielle Marie Suarez Cardema as first nominee of the Duterte Youth party-list. As of Monday morning, Duterte Youth has received over 346,000 votes or 1.25 percent of the total votes for party-lists. Sixty-one seats available for party-lists. In the first round of allocations, those who receive a total of 2 percent of total votes are"guaranteed one seat.
Malacañang said Cardema is deemed resigned from his post regardless if the COMELEC en banc grants or rejects his petition. Cardema, who served as the chairman of Duterte Youth, was previously criticized for directing youth leaders to report"anti-government" students in hopes of having their scholarships revoked.
