BOULDER, Colo. — Researchers in Colorado and Pennsylvania have developed a series of artificial intelligence tools that can scan through open-ended essays in college applications.in the journal “Science Advances” and was developed by researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder and University of Pennsylvania.

The insights were then fed into a series of AI platforms to train them to identify evidence of personal qualities going beyond simple word spotting. "We find that because those essays really reflect reality and lived experience, they're a really good avenue to convey what those kids' experiences are," D'Mello said.
