Right-hander Aaron Civale is joining Plesac on the 15-day injured list. The club recalled righty Xzavion Curry and lefty Kirk McCarty from Triple-A Columbus to take Plesac and Civale’s spots on the active roster.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cody Morris will make his big league debut Friday for the Guardians, starting in place of Zach Plesac, who was scratched due to a right hand issue, the team announced.
Plesac suffered a fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand, and Civale, who missed four weeks with a right wrist sprain in July, is making his third trip to the IL after experiencing right forearm inflammation. Morris, 25, is in his fourth professional season. He was activated from the 60-day injured list on Thursday. He suffered a right back strain at the onset of spring workouts and began a rehab assignment for the Rookie ACL Guardians July 12. Later, he resumed his rehab at AAA Columbus, posting a 2.35 ERA for the Clippers in six outings , logging 15 1/3 innings and allowing five hits, four earned runs, six walks and 30 strikeouts.
Over his three recent relief outings with Columbus Morris pitched six hitless innings, striking out 13. The Maryland native was Cleveland’s seventh-round selection in the 2018 MLB Draft out of South Carolina.
