In a statement, the CoCT said that allowing private sector participation in the Port of Cape Town has the potential to contribute an additional R6 billion in exports.

In a first for Transnet, the Port of Durban will be partly owned and operated by the Philippines’ International Container Terminal Services.

‘We have willing partners to start working towards private sector participation in our port. We need to get the economic cluster in a room to talk business. We have no time to waste given the economic impact of our poorly run port.’ ‘I welcome the report released by the Western Cape government that recommends the appointment of a private service provider to operate the terminal. It further spells out that the port had the potential to contribute an additional R6bn in exports, roughly 20 000 direct and indirect jobs, and more than R1,6bn in additional taxes by 2026,’ added Vos.
