Kelsie McEachern is back home in the Lake Houston area coaching the Kingwood Park Lady...
Kelsie McEachern, the new Kingwood Park head softball coach and the daughter of Huffman-Hargrave athletic director and head football coach Mike McEachern, watches her team work during practice at KPHS on March 10, 2022.When Kingwood Park played in the Hargrave tournament earlier this season it wasn’t an ordinary tournament.
Mike wasn’t wearing a mixed Kingwood Park/Hargrave shirt for each team. He knows the Huffman Independent School District signs his checks.“People were asking me where I was going to sit,” Mike laughed. “I said smack dab right in the middle. As a father you want your child to do well and as someone that’s been at Huffman for 19 years you want your program to win. I was a little torn, but she won the game and that’s all that matters.
When she moved to the Lake Houston area for the K-Park job she didn’t have to stay at her mom and dad’s house like she was in high school.“I believe this area of Houston is one of the best as far as softball goes,” Kelsie said. “When I applied for the job, they asked me how familiar I was with Kingwood Park. I told them that our high school competed with them when I was at Hargrave. We would always come over here for volleyball tournaments and other sports. This is a competitive area.
