This week’s suggested route takes us to Clitheroe Castle which has dominated the local skyline for over 800 years
With another warm weekend expected, it could be the perfect time to get out and explore another of Lancashire’s picturesque areas.
. It is the start and end point to the walk so why not take the chance explore the keep either side of your adventure? Elsewhere on the walk, there’s a stop in the village of Pendleton, a place whose history includes witchcraft and a mention in the Domesday Book. It’s settlement is thought to date back to the Bronze Age and today it’s classic appearance makes it a popular spot for visitors. We’re suggesting a stop in the village for refreshments at the Swan With Two Necks - a traditional CAMRA award winning pub popular among real ale enthusiasts.
Owned by the same family for 30 years, it offers an excellent choice of award-winning beers including less common varieties such as that from the local microbrewery and local produce is favoured for its food offering. As well as Sunday roasts and homemade pies, it offers include seasonal game and other less usual options among its chef’s specials.
The route is adapted from one originally created by Lancashire Walks and Wildlife and covers five miles with a typical duration of around two hours. It covers stretches of farmland and as well country lanes and one busy stretch of road.
