Climate teleconnection tied to global fires identified NatureComms

Fig. 4: Relationships among climate teleconnections from 1982 to 2018 using Principal Component Analysis .First versus second PCA component ; third versus fourth PCA component . Color indicates the importance of the component for each variable as the square cosine.Several analyses were conducted to test for significant relationships between CTs and BA. We first identified the fire season peak at pixel level across the globe to focus on the main fire season.

Finally, in order to better understand the relationship between climatic forcing and BA at multiple time scales, we summarized individual CT-fire associations into a set of CTDs. These CTD were derived by applying cluster analysis to the Pearson’s correlation coefficients obtained for the different combinations of CTs and lag windows at pixel level. We synthesized the association with the four analyzed time lags, grouping pixels into clusters depicting similar linkages.

A latitudinal gradient of deep-sea invasions for marine fishes - Nature CommunicationsA latitudinal gradient of deep-sea invasions for marine fishes - Nature CommunicationsThis study finds that high-latitude fish clades with the fastest speciation rates also exhibit elevated rates of depth evolution, creating a prevailing latitudinal gradient of deep-sea invasions concentrated in poleward regions. These results advance our understanding of how niche lability and climate shape global patterns of species distributions.

The function and evolution of a genetic switch controlling sexually dimorphic eye differentiation in honeybees - Nature CommunicationsThe function and evolution of a genetic switch controlling sexually dimorphic eye differentiation in honeybees - Nature CommunicationsSexual dimorphism results in widely diverse animal forms, but sexual determination is generally attributed to a single gene in animal models. Here they find that the glu gene regulates sexual dimorphism of honeybee eyes, demonstrating diversification of genetic programs for dimorphism.
