Climate change fuelling N.S. wildfires say ecologists, climate activists
"This is part of an ongoing symptom of a warming climate and really creating these perfect scenarios for these fires to rage on uncontrollably like they're doing."Nicholas Carter is an ecologist and researcher at the Plant Based Treaty, he says the link between the effects of climate change and Nova Scotia's wildfires should be taken seriously by government officials.
"These uncontrollable forest fires, a warming climate, these things will be far, far more expensive in the long run," he said. Lindsay and Paul Lee evacuated their home in the Highland Park subdivision of Hammonds Plains on Sunday amid a wildfire near Halifax that grew to 837 hectares.
