Executive producer Steve Gaub explains the decision to split The Witcher season 3 into two parts. Based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, the latest season of Netflix's popular fantasy adaptation finds the many monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent competing to capture Ciri while Geralt fights ferociously to protect his newly-reunited family.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT During a recent interview with The Verge, Gaub explained the decision to divide The Witcher season 3 into two volumes. The show's producer says it wasn't the plan from the start and while they were in production, Stranger Things season 4 was similarly split into two volumes, which inspired them to do the same.
That came up during the edit. That wasn’t written into the script; it wasn’t known when we were shooting. However, we did know what the season was, and there is a significant pivot point. And whilst we were in production, Stranger Things had come out, and they had split their season. And it was like, "Well, that’s intriguing." In a streaming world, cliffhangers don’t really exist because you’re hitting play [right after an episode ends].
The Witcher Season 3 Continues A Netflix Trend After advocating for the binge-watch model for years by releasing an entire season's worth of episodes at once, Netflix has recently been splitting seasons up into multiple parts. Stranger Things season 4 was divided into two volumes when it debuted last May, while the streamer has also been experimenting with different models such as with Arcane: League of Legends, which was released as a three-week-long event.
