shattered seven grand champion records and raised $312,000 for students in its FFA program, making 2023 the most successful year in the event's 41-year tradition.
“Breaking the records for the grand champion steer and grand championship pig was something I really needed in order to congratulate myself, and it just showed me that all of the hard work really does pay off,” said Shannon.This year, the reserve champion steer, which was raised by another Clear Springs student, Madison Cook, was purchased for $15,000.
In 2022, which was the first in-person post-pandemic event in which the public participated, the auction took in a then-record-breaking $250,000. The top buyers this year included a mix of residents and commercial entities, including Norman Frede Chevrolet, which purchased the winning steer. The top 10 purchases ranged from $9,000 to $21,850.
