The routine hearing Tuesday marked the first time Perry has appeared in court since he was arrested on Nov. 10 and charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor. According to an arrest affidavit, Perry drank 14 alcoholic beverages over the course of four hours while at thePolice say Perry left the bar and got behind the wheel of his black Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and later crashed head-on into a Honda Civic at Jones Maltsberger and Redland roads.
Perry fled the scene in his Jeep, police say. A witness followed the vehicle to Perry’s home and returned to the scene of the accident to give the address to the driver of the Civic, who passed it on to the police.After his arrest, Perry went on an indefinite, unpaid leave of absence from City Council. The councilman said he would take “the appropriate measures as determined by medical professionals to ensure that this will never happen again.
The change came after the Express-News outlined how the Bexar County criminal justice system has been notably lenient in its handling of DWIs.
