The District 10 councilman made an announcement at a Valentine’s Day event on Tuesday.
Embroiled District 10 Counciman Clayton Perry makes his first appearance at City Council on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 about two months after he took leave following a drunk driving charge in November.
Political and business leaders in his Northeast Side district had quietly pleaded with Perry to step aside since the accident, fearing that he’d be too politically damaged to serve effectively if he won another term in the upcoming election. It would have been his last under the city’s term limits for council members.
Perry, 67, had been coy about his intentions to run after he returned in January from a nearly two-month long leave from council. But he announced at a Valentine’s Day event on Tuesday that he won’t seek re-election, according to Northeast Senior Center volunteer Joe Garcia.
