The Cougars halted DeSoto’s two-year run as state champions and claimed their first...
Ronald Cortes / ContribuitorRooted from its playoff loss last year, Clark played with confidence and poise to beat DeSoto, 42-37, in the UIL state Class 6A championship Saturday night in the Alamodome.
“Last year, unfortunately, we didn’t get that championship and bring it home for San Antonio,” Roberson said. “We wanted our revenge, and that’s what we got. We used it as a stepping stone and a boost because we’ve been here before, but we needed to go the extra mile and bring the ’chip home and rep our city.”
The Cougars played before an enthusiastic crowd and after the getting their gold medals and championship trophy, they rushed to the stands to celebrate with their fans. DeSoto had a 33-30 lead with 2:56 left in the third quarter. The Eagles scored just one basket over the next eight minutes and just two points in the fourth quarter.
In addition to the numbers, Roberson exuded confidence — not only on Saturday, but throughout the season.
