Some stories are not for the squeamish
Many have come forward to share their stories of supernatural activities while others battle with sceptics to have their tales believed. Families have been tortured by poltergeists while others have been lucky enough to escape with just a chance sighting.
It is a mecca for ghost hunters and those trying to understand what lies beyond the veil. However, for the people who live next to the building, it is not as haunting as it may seem. “The room went colder and darker, the atmosphere changed, and my partner felt someone blowing down the back of his neck. That was enough and we ran down the stairs.”
But while the story, published in the ECHO in August 2014, may have had its sceptics, paranormal expert Tom Slemen is not so sure. The ghost of a young boy was spotted after a family attended for lunch with their grandson when a member of staff asked if all was okay. Paranormal investigators made up of Chris Cummings and Adam Billing, were invited to the Manor Farm in Rainhill this month to investigate the grounds that are said to be 400 years old.
Rumour has it, a hotel with that much history has picked up plenty of ghosts along the way. Many guests have reported seeing the ghost of 'George' standing next to their bed on the fifth floor. A series of disturbing events were said to have begun on the morning of Wednesday, July 23, 1986. Witnesses reported seeing furniture and objects flung across a room in the family home by a sinister unseen force.
It smashed through the window and landed in the front garden. Four police officers came and they were very sceptical and said the damage must have been caused by somebody. Speke Hall Speke Hall was built 400 years ago by the devout Catholic Norris family. Over the years, visitors have claimed to see ghosts roaming Speke Hall including a white lady, a Victorian gardener, a ghostly priest and a werewolf-like beast.
"My job was to admit people into the house and to get to the door people had to walk along the stone bridge and ring the bell, but many times I would hear footsteps coming down the bridge and I'd open the door and there wouldn't be anyone there."
